Fun Facts

In my late 20s I decided to take a few years off from marketing and try some completely different careers such as dog walking and rubbish collection.
I’m originally from Canada but have been living in the North East of England for the last 4 years.
I started surfing in my mid-30s and while I’m not great at it, it’s by far my favourite pastime.

Interview

When and how did you get your start in marketing?

I started in marketing back in 2005 while still in school for advertising. My first role was in admin at an agency that a family friend owned. This agency specialised in personalised marketing experiences before it was so mainstream so it was really cool to start my career in such an innovative space.

What brings you joy in your role?

I love collaborating with others on something new and exciting. Putting our brains together to come up with a solution or revolutionary idea is always rewarding. That, and seeing the results of our work come to life in a tangible way!

What tips, tricks, or pieces of advice would give a new Iterable user?

My advice for a new Iterable user is to spend some time in Iterable Academy. There are so many hidden gems and different ways of working within the interface that you’ll discover while getting up to speed!

What are some Iterable features that have made your job easier? Or have been game-changers for yourself and your team?

Our team loves the flexibility that Iterable offers. We all have different approaches so have found it invaluable that Iterable is able to accommodate.  We often experiment with customizing our workflow to ensure our customers get a personalised 1:1 experience while we strive to reduce the time spent on each campaign.

As a consumer, what brings you joy from a brand’s outreach/communication?

I love when I can tell that a larger brand has gone the extra mile by leveraging the data available to them to personalise my experience but they’ve done it in an effective way. These days I think that most consumers are expecting that next level of care and customised experience, but they want it to feel natural and not forced. It’s such a fine balance, but when a brand gets it right you hardly notice it’s happened but you feel a connection. That brings me so much joy.

How do you stay up–to–date with the latest trends and developments in marketing?

To stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments in marketing I try to sign up for and read as many blogs and attend as many webinars as possible by industry leaders and up-and-coming marketing professionals.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I’ve ever been given is pretty cliché, but it’s that life is too short to spend time doing things you don’t enjoy.

What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?

The one thing that always makes my day better is getting cuddles from my elderly dog. He knows just how to snuggle right in and make me forget all my worries.
